NORTH COUNTY — Authorities announced today that a widespread North County burglary ring has been dismantled, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Caldwell.

Detectives got an anonymous tip in mid February that led them to arrest two people in connection with the ring, she said. The scheme is believed to have started last July and detectives have cases in Fallbrook, Vista, San Marcos, Encinitas, Carlsbad and Escondido, Caldwell said.

The burglaries involved new home construction sites or homes for sale or rent across North County, she said. The thieves would wait for the workers to leave for the day and then enter the home and take the high-end appliances, barbecues, outdoor heaters, and hand tools, Caldwell said. The thieves even took two kayaks at one home, she said.

Detectives arrested Mario Gaona, 38, of Fallbrook in connection with the burglary ring on February 26, Caldwell said. Deputies also arrested Christopher Gascon, 36, on an unrelated felony warrant for possession of a controlled substance, she said.

Authorities issued a felony warrant for Saul Tellez, 36, in connection with the burglary ring case, Caldwell said. He is described as Latino, 6 foot 1 inches tall and weighing 240 pounds, she said.
