ENCINITAS — Activist Steve Aceti said Wednesday he is moving from Carlsbad to Encinitas, where he might run for the City Council in 2008.

Aceti, 50, is executive director of the Encinitas-based California Coastal Coalition, a nonprofit advocacy organization representing coastal cities and counties. He also is president of Downtown Encinitas MainStreet Association’s board of directors.

Earlier this year, Aceti applied to fill a vacancy on the Carlsbad City Council created by the resignation of Norine Sigafoose.

He said his family lived in Encinitas previously but moved to Carlsbad to live in a larger home. His 5-year-old son begins kindergarten in August, and access to smaller class sizes in Encinitas schools was a main factor driving the family’s move over the Memorial Day weekend, Aceti said.

A native of New York, Aceti received a law degree from the State University of New York at Albany. In the mid-1990s in Encinitas, Aceti participated in a successful campaign to increase hotel taxes to create money for beach restoration. In 2003, he led an unsuccessful campaign to institute an Encinitas clean-water fee.

He is the former chairman of the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce legislative affairs committee.
