ENCINITAS —- Authorities are investigating roadside brush fires, one of them that briefly threatened buildings, near northbound Interstate 5 this morning in Encinitas, a NorthComm dispatcher said.

Homes were in the path of one blaze reported just before 11:30 a.m. by the freeway’s northbound lanes south of Birmingham Drive in the Cardiff area, according to the California Highway Patrol.

However, there was no danger to buildings a short time later, the NorthComm dispatcher said.

About three to four fire were reported along a two-mile stretch of roadside as travelers used cell phones to report the smoke and flames.

Investigators were trying to determine whether they were accidentally or deliberately started.
