Thomas Marent, a native of Switzerland, spent 16 years visiting rain forests, studying the plants and creatures and taking photographs for the 360-page hardcover book. He financed his travels by working as a biologist in Switzerland.
The book, “Rainforest: A Photographic Journey,” was published in September by Dorling Kindersley of The Rainforest Foundation. A portion of the book’s royalties goes to the foundation.
Carmel Valley resident James Danforth, a friend of Marent who helped arrange the stop at Swami’s, called the book “tremendous.”
“I can’t say enough about it,” he said.
