North County Times closes Encinitas office

ENCINITAS — The North County Times has closed its Encinitas bureau on Coast Highway 101 but will continue to
cover the city and surrounding communities from its Oceanside office.

ENCINITAS — The North County Times has closed its Encinitas bureau on Coast Highway 101 but will continue to cover the city and surrounding communities from its Oceanside office.

Publisher Dick High cited cost as the reason for closing the bureau.

“The financial cost of operating the Encinitas office is equivalent to having two extra reporters,” High told newspaper employees Tuesday in a companywide memo. “Everything else being equal, I’d rather have the two reporters, even if they have to drive from Oceanside.”

“The important thing to know is that we will be focusing more energy, not less, on coverage of our local communities,” High said in his memo. “We hope the changes in offices and newsroom organization will strengthen our local news report, our greatest value to readers and our competitive advantage.”

The address of the Oceanside office is 1722 S. Coast Highway 101, Oceanside, CA 92054.
