Encinitas,Calif. — Two people were injured early Saturday when a large SUV collided with a pickup truck that was waiting to make a left turn in Cardiff by the Sea, a sheriff’s sergeant said.
A woman driving the pickup was waiting to make a turn from Birmingham Drive to Carol View Road around 2:15 a.m. when a Ford Explorer approached from behind at a high rate of speed and struck her vehicle, Sgt. T.C. Yancey said.
After what the sergeant termed “a massive sideswipe,” the SUV rolled three times.
The driver of the Explorer was ejected and had to be flown to Scripps Memorial Hospital for treatment, Yancey said. His passenger was treated at Scripps Hospital in Encinitas.
The woman driving the pickup was not hurt, according to the sergeant.
