ENCINITAS —- A man whose body was found on train tracks in Encinitas early Friday morning committed suicide, authorities said Sunday.

The body of 60-year-old Encinitas resident Richard Gumley was found shortly after midnight in the 1600 block of Coast Highway 101, sheriff’s Sgt. William Dreyer said. The death was believed to have occurred at about 10 p.m. the night before, he said.

Investigators found a suicide note and train schedules in a hotel room that Gumley had apparently checked into, said sheriff’s Lt. Phil Brust.

Gumley is survived by his wife, Lynda Gumley, an investigator for the county sheriff’s department said.
