ENCINITAS – An armed robber held up a Blockbuster Video store late Tuesday, stealing cash from the register and safe, authorities said.

The man walked into the store on Santa Fe Drive west of Interstate 5 at 11 p.m. and placed a black handgun on the front counter, sheriff’s officials said.

He demanded money from the register, but once the clerks complied, he also demanded money from the safe.

He agreed to wait 10 minutes for the safe, which is on a timer, to open. He then took off with an unknown amount of cash.

The robber was described as white, in his 30s, about 5 feet 7 inches tall and 160 pounds. He was wearing a baseball cap, black sweat shirt, dark jeans and white tennis shoes.
