Three children in Carlsbad, ages 8-to 17-years-old were diagnosed in October of 2006. Three other children were diagnosed between October and December of 2006: a 6-year-old Vista child, an 11-year-old La Mesa child and a 15-year-old in Encinitas.
A 37-year-old man from San Diego was recently diagnosed on Feb. 7 and a 40-year-old Vista man was confirmed with aplastic anemia in October of last year.

The county health department has not determined a cause for this rare blood disease that normally is found in just one or two people per million.
