ENCINITAS, Calif. — About 100 children with deformities recieved free reconstructive surgery, laser treatments, speech therapy and medical advice Saturday during a “Surgery Weekend” at Tri-City Medical Center in Encinitas, 10News said.

Anesthesiologists, nurses, technicians and hospital staffers will volunteer their time during the weekend event sponsored by the nonprofit group Fresh Start
Tri-City Medical Center has participated in similar events twice a year for the past two years, donating more than 800 staff hours, equivalent to about $794,000 in medical services, according to Fresh Start.

The patients are from the U.S. and countries around the world including, Mexico, Ukraine and Cameroon.

Fresh Start brings them to San Diego to better manage care and so volunteers can work closer to home.

Some of the surgical procedures to be be done include an otoplasty for protruding ears, scar revision for a dog bite, cleft lip repair and hand surgery for a burn victim.

The surgeries will be done at the Center for Surgery of Encinitas on El Camino Real.
