ENCINITAS —- A car crashed into an Encinitas Christian book store today without injuring anyone, witnesses said.

Authorities said an elderly woman was behind the wheel of the Volkswagen Jetta.

It slammed into a window at the Chronicles Bookstore at 207 S. El Camino Real just after 10 a.m., they said.

“I was in my store and I heard a very loud bang,” said Sheila Malek, owner of the adjoining Ellie’s Tailor Shop in the strip mall.

She said she and another woman put the car in park and took the keys. The driver was “very startled and scared,” said Malek.

“She’s OK,” said the businesswoman. “The greatest thing is that the owner of the business came to her and said it was just material damage, and she should feel in peace. That’s very sweet.”
